Performance

The regkey emailer is back online! This took a long time, mostly because I decided to use the opportunity to completely rewrite the registration management side of things. I am very please with the way it turned out. It is much more secure, efficient, and reliable. There are still a few things to do, but things are in good shape. In the near future (sometime this year) I will begin a complete rewrite of HamAlyzer. New features, better performance, much is in the works. More on that as it happens. Stay tuned!

Due to recent malicious attacks, the links to the order pages have been down for about a month. I apologize for this. It couldn't have happened at a worse time, since my wife and I just had a baby! Minor update to version 2.86. Added two features requested by users. First, you now have the ability to adjust the brightness of the gridlines. And second, you can now clear the peak plot while HamAlyzer is running, by either double-clicking the small blue arrow on the button, or by typing ctrl-r. Also, upgraded the images on the buttons of the program. Let me know if you like them!

Fixed the regkey emailer on the website. It wasn't finding every registered user's email address, so a few hams couldn't get their registration key. This has been fixed.

Minor update to version 2.84 including a couple of bug fixes and a few improvements. One or two hams reported a runtime error, and I suspect it was caused by the color palette control I was using to select plot colors, so I have replaced it. Also, fixed a bug that caused the plot window to be 'hidden' when HamAlyzer is run for the first time. A kind user from Germany has offered to do real German translations. Previously I was using Google language tools, and he admitted that many of the 'German' phrases were quite funny. The good German translations should make the next release. If you would like to help with translations into another language, please send me an email.

HamAlyzer.com has a new credit card processor. Kagi.com is now our exclusive processor. They have been in business for years, and their system is very good. I have been able to make the registration process more streamlined and simplified as a result. The entire process is now more secure, and is easier and faster than ever!

Released 2.8 is ready for download. It has been tested pretty well, but I'm still calling it beta, because the documentation still hasn't been updated. I'll get to it sometime soon. It's a pretty good update, and should fix the problem a few users were having that caused the program to load normally, but then nothing happened. This was a pretty strange bug. The program was actually loading normally, it's just that the window was showing up off screen somewhere. So if you had hit the space bar, you'd be analyzing, although you'd never know it. By the way, a fix for this problem is to resize the windows taskbar. You know that bar at the bottom of your screen? If it's not locked (right click on it and make sure 'lock the taskbar' is not checked) you can resize it, and when you do, all windows will be adjusted so that they are fully visible, including the stray HamAlyzer window. This should fix the problem for good too, since HamAlyzer saves the window position when you exit. But this is a mute point, since the new version is here!

In other news, I have switched website hosts. The old one was getting aweful, the site was down a lot, I wasn't getting email. The new host seems pretty good, but some of the scripts for the site still aren't working yet. I'm working on it. The regkey emailer is one that just won't work. Released 2.61, which fixes a bug that caused the plot to redraw incorrectly when the new amplitude range slider was in use. Also corrected a bug that caused a small part of the program to remain in memory when the exit button on the ControlStrip was used to shut down.

Things are really looking good, it's more stable than ever, with even more features, it's easier to use, and it takes up less screen space with the new ControlStrip feature! I have some rather cool stuff to report. First, hamalyzer.com now accepts credit cards! We've teamed up with Developers Kingdom as our online credit card processor, and the whole transaction process should be smooth as silk. Of course, you can still use paypal or US mail if you like. Also, I've spent the last week playing in the cgi bin, writing some new scripts. The coolest is regkey emailer. This is for registered users only. If you lose your registration key, just go to the form (it's in the menu at the left) and type in your email address and call sign, and your key will be emailed to you automatically. Pretty cool if I do say so. Also, there's a new discussion board. It's much nicer than the old one. It is threaded, which means replies to a message are indented, and it's searchable. Give it a try!

Wow, you guys are fast! I had version 2.40 up for just a couple of hours, and already I had hams contacting me about the spelling error in the about window. You also quickly pointed out that the overlay window was not saving plot colors. Man, I can't get anything past you guys! :) Version 2.41 fixes these two glitches.

Version 2.4 is ready! It features the ability to save and load spectrum data to the hard disk, and a new registration system that makes upgrading to future version a snap. See the new version features page for brief descriptions of these features. The program is really developing into a great analyzer. It is very stable, as fast as ever, and it's feature set continues to grow. In terms of software quality, I think that SpectraPlus by Sound Technology is probably the only analyzer available that approaches HamAlyzer, in my opinion. I must say though that I think HamAlyzer is easier to use (and the screen flicker of the plot window in spectraPlus gave me a headache), and the cost of SpectraPlus is around $600-$700 dollars! They don't put the price on the website (hmm, I wonder why!) so it's hard to know for sure, although I know some hams who have purchased it for that price, only afterwards finding HamAlyzer!
